What is TileOx Tile Adhesive?

TileOx Tile Adhesive is a high-performance, polymer-modified adhesive specially developed to bond a wide range of tiles—such as ceramic, mosaic, vitrified, natural stone, and clay tiles—on various surfaces. This flexible adhesive enhances tile-to-surface bonding and is suitable for both dry and wet applications. It contains Portland cement, polymers, selected aggregates, and additives that reduce shrinkage and increase strength. Its flexibility also accommodates thermal and structural movements effectively.

Why TileOx Outperforms Traditional Cement

Unlike traditional cement mortar, which tends to shrink and create hollow spots beneath tiles (leading to cracks and chips), TileOx Tile Adhesive offers superior bonding strength and long-term durability. Tile adhesive requires a thinner application layer, reducing material usage and the overall load on the structure. The inclusion of polymers and water-resistant properties makes it more efficient, especially in wet or high-demand areas, compared to the conventional sand-cement mix.

Types of TileOx Tile Adhesives and Their Applications

TileOx offers five distinct types of adhesives based on Indian Standard IS 15477:2019. Each type is engineered to suit specific tile materials, surface types, and environmental conditions:

  • Type 1: For porous clay and ceramic (non-vitrified) tiles ≤ 300mm x 300mm; ideal for cement-based backgrounds like plaster, screed, and concrete.

  • Type 2: Suitable for low-porosity tiles (<3%) like vitrified tiles, large format tiles, glass mosaics, and stones used in wet or submerged areas.

  • Type 3: Designed for external wall applications; supports a wide range of tiles including ceramic, vitrified, porcelain, basalt, glass mosaics, and natural stone.

  • Type 4: Applicable on drywall substrates and suitable for almost all tile types (except metal or engineered stone on drywall). Covers all uses of Types 1–3.

  • Type 5: Specially formulated for engineered stone and all tile types being installed on metallic or glass substrates like stainless steel, aluminum, or copper.

Important Guidelines for Optimal TileOx Application

To ensure maximum performance from TileOx Tile Adhesive, the following steps are essential:

  • Surface Preparation: Clean the surface thoroughly to remove dust, dirt, or loose particles using sandpaper, wire brush, or water jetting. Cementitious substrates should be at least 28 days cured. Surfaces with over 5 mm irregularities should be leveled beforehand.

  • Mixing Instructions: Combine the adhesive powder with clean water as per the recommended ratio. Mix thoroughly for 3–5 minutes using a paddle mixer until a smooth, lump-free paste forms. The mix should be used within its pot life for best results.

  • Tooling and Quality: Always use a notched trowel to apply adhesive uniformly. Choose a product that offers proper usage guidance and has undergone in-house quality testing.

  • Right Product, Right Process: Even the best tile adhesive can underperform if installation is improper. Ensure proper mixing, notching, tile bedding, and grouting to achieve a durable and professional finish.
